A delegation led by Professor Mohamed Yacoub Janabi, who was recently appointed as the WHO Regional Director for Africa, held discussions with the Minister of Health, Dr. Mekdes Daba, on regional and national health sector cooperation and implementation.
Stating that the WHO’s contribution to achieving meaningful change in the health sector is significant, the Minister of Health, Dr. Mekdes Daba, said that the ongoing efforts to achieve universal health coverage should be strengthened and continued. She asked the delegates to stand by the institution in supporting the work being done in terms of social health insurance, primary health care, health emergencies and epidemic prevention and control.
Professor Mohamed Yacoub Janabi, Director of the World Health Organization for Africa, said that the changes in the health sector and in terms of protecting the health of citizens as a country are encouraging. He said that efforts should be made to increase domestic production and work with countries, strengthen disease surveillance and control, expand health insurance programs, encourage the private health sector, and improve domestic resource mobilization and utilization. He said that the World Health Organization will provide the necessary support for this.
