Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of parasitic and bacterial diseases that cause substantial illness for more than one billion people globally. The Ministry of Health of Ethiopia has prioritized eight NTDs as diseases of public health significance. These include trachoma, soil-transmitted helminthes (STH), schistosomiasis; Lymphatic filariasis (LF), Onchocerciasis (Oncho), Dracunculiasis /Guineaworm is easing (GWD), Leishmaniasis, and Podoconiosis. Scabies has recently been added following recognition of it as NTD by WHO

National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) is one of the programs under the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate responsible for designing, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of malaria-related interventions and activities in Ethiopia. 

Roles and Responsibilities Of The NMEP 

National HIV/AIDS program is one of the programs under the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate responsible for designing, planning, and implementing; monitoring, and evaluating HIV and Viral Hepatitis related interventions and activities in Ethiopia.
 

Roles and responsibilities 

National mental, neurological and substance use health Program(NMNSP) is one of the programs under the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate is responsible for setting standards, developing and revising national guidelines, preparing national action plans including target setting, mobilizing resources necessary for capacity-building, monitoring, awareness creation, and evaluation, advocacy, and operational research, and for overseeing overall national coordination of health services and programs for mental health.

Ensure provision of safe water, sanitation and hygiene services in emergencies

• Improve resilience of the health system towards climate change.
• Reduce the health system’s contribution for climate change.

• Improve occupational health and safety through regular Advocacy,  promotion and monitoring
• Develop occupational Health Standards with concerned sectors

• Ensure inclusive water, sanitation and hygiene services in all health facilities 
• Strengthen Infection prevention and control interventions in health facilities
• Promote provision of water, sanitation and hygiene services and practices in schools including Menstrual hygiene management 
• Promote provision of water, sanitation and hygiene services and practices in other health related Institutions

• Reduce indoor air pollution through promotion of safe, smokeless energy source options.  
• Promote safe management and disposal of hazardous wastes
• Promote safe handling of chemicals and hazardous heavy metals
